This study intends to analyze the inhibited and marginalized identities of the male characters in M.T’s selected works focusing mainly on Randamoozham and Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha which are the representative works of his milieu. Story of Chandu, who is considered as ‘betrayer’ in the Vadakkanpaattukal (Ballads of the North) is reconstructed by M.T. Both Chandu and Bhima, who were popularly misunderstood, are strongly uplifted and brought to the front by the author. Gita Krishnankutty translated the novel Randamoozham into English, which is entitled, Bhima: Lone Warrior.
The theme of human alienation and marginalization runs though most of his works: Appunni in Naalukettu, Sethumadhavan in Kaalam, Karunan Master of Vanaprastham, Velayudhan in Iruttinte Athmaav, Bhima in Randamoozham, Chandu in Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha are all representatives of the stifled individuals. Vasudevan Nair provides a rather resilient expression to the suppressed male voices in his works. So if you want to really experience the best book ever written in Malayalam, you should read it as soon as possible or may be buy a copy, it is worth it. I like Mohanlal very much but I don’t know if his appearance will justify the character in the book in anyway.

For example characters like Krishnan, Bheeman and Panchali has a very dark complexion in the book but our stereotypical movie makers never cast dark complexioned actors to play lead roles and Bheemasenan is played by Mohanlal. If you read the book after the movie drops I’m afraid that your imagination will be affected by the movie. I’m not going to spoil anything for you guys but If you intentionally immerse yourself into the world of Randamoozham, you’ll be amazed how twisty actually the story is. The whole story unravels in Bheeman’s perspective, and things happening in this story actually makes sense and makes one to think that maybe this is the real story of Mahabharatham. This book shows us a different perspective of Mahabharatham, one we never heard before. M.T is a legend to write such a masterpiece. It has everything ,action, drama, romance and grief. So I want everyone who is a Malayalee to have that experience, this book is not your normal “Chetan Bhagat” or “immortals of Meluha”, This is true classic. That was life changing for me, I finished the whole book in a single stretch.

So I found a pdf online (I don’t recommend this now), and started reading it in my phone.
So one day he comes up to me and said “Dude, you must read Randamoozham, It’s a superb book and I’m damn sure you’ll like it.”(in Malayalam) So I asked him “What’s the story” He said”Its mahabharatham except it is very realistic, action packed with twists and lots of drama, it is better than any Malayalam movie and Bheeman is the main character “ Up until that point the only Idea I had about Mahabaratham is that Arjunan and Karnan were super warriors and Arjunan won the war, that was it. I had a friend who I know has interests in books and classic movies and stuff like that. So, coming to the point, When I was in college, I was not a book reader and I had no idea about Malayalam books,(or any book for that matter).
There is so much in the book that I doubt a Malayalam movie can make real and believable. I know Randamoozham is supposed to be the “Bahubali” of Malayalam cinema.
